COE adds two new research centers

This fall, the College of Education added two new research centers that focus on adult literacy and evaluation services.

The Adult Literacy Research Center is designed to address low adult literacy skills by connecting researchers who study literacy from different perspectives – health, family, community and the workplace, among others. It works in conjunction with the college’s Center for the Study of Adult Literacy to develop an interdisciplinary understanding of adult literacy and how best to address the low levels of it in the U.S.

The Center for Evaluation and Research Services facilitates and collaborates on grant proposals through the College of Education’s Department of Educational Policy Studies and provides evaluation and research services for K-12 schools, technical colleges and universities. Center staff and affiliated college faculty will also offer training to graduate students interested in learning more about evaluation design, implementation and measurement.

“Building on the very successful launch of two college centers last year, we are pleased to announce the creation of these two new centers for 2014,” said Walt Thompson, College of Education associate dean for graduate studies and research. “We have high expectations for these new centers as we continue to build on the talent and success of our faculty and staff.”
